Swindon Town Women’s league campaign so far has been nothing short of remarkable.

As they currently sit in second in Division One South East, they are only 1 point off the league leaders Moneyfields Women and have a crucial game in hand over their opponents. Having played 14 league games to date, they have lost just 1 one these and won the remaining 13 – a hugely impressive record which is sure to inspire fear in any opposition team.

Not only have Swindon managed 13 league victories, but they have also claimed many in hugely important fixtures which might go on to determine their final league standing this season. Their 2-1 victory over 3rd placed Bristol Rovers way back in October proved their intent for the season, while their critical 2-1 win against Moneyfields Women on 30 November cemented Swindon’s position as promotion contenders.

With 13 leagues wins under their belt so far already this year, they have already matched last season’s total - an impressive statistic by all means, especially considering they still have 8 league games yet to play. Last season’s performances, which saw them claim a respectable third place finish, have been clearly built on as the Robins look to life in Tier 3.

A significant moment in Swindon’s growth as club came in September 2022 when the team became fully integrated with the men’s side. This move resulted in Swindon Town Women playing all of their home games this season at the 15,500 capacity Nigel Eady County Ground - a stage which matches the calibre of football that this Swindon team is producing.

Outside of their huge league success, Swindon have also had an incredible Adobe Women’s FA Cup run. A dramatic 3-2 comeback against fellow Tier 4 side Leafield Athletic women, inspired by their talisman Annabelle Colston, ensured that the Robins reached the fourth-round proper of the competition. Although they bowed out against WSL 2 side Charlton Athletic Women, this run showcased their ability to compete with teams from higher divisions.

Colston herself has been a crucial part of Swindon’s success this season. Currently boasting a mind-boggling tally of 31 goals across 24 games, she has been truly unstoppable - something that her 8 opposition players of the match awards can further attest to. A hugely loyal player, she became in August one of only 7 players across the whole club to reach 100 goals. If Swindon wish to continue their incredible form, Colston’s goals will be a key part of their journey this season.

Another key player for Swindon this season has been Taylor Macdonald. At just 21 years old, Macdonald dominates the midfield, with her technical ability, creativity and tenacity earning her two well deserved player of the match awards. Having signed from WSL 2 side Portsmouth women back in 2023, Macdonald has quickly made her mark on this Swindon side and will be hoping her performances can help to drive them towards promotion.

With just 9 league games remaining, consistency will be the key for Swindon if they wish to secure that top spot and promotion into Tier 3. All eyes will be on their 6 pointer clash against Moneyfields women on the last day of the season 26th April!
