Ascot United Women

After an excellent season in the Southern Region Women’s Football League Premier Division, Andy Cox’s side has won promotion to Tier 4. Ascot United Women, who play in their distinctive yellow and blue kit, are ready to take the National League by storm. Read on for an idea about who Ascot United Women are and why you should watch out for them next season!

League form

Ascot have had a truly excellent season so far which is demonstrated by them maintaining an unbeaten league record all season, with a total of 17 wins and 1 draw across 18 games. As well as that, they boast a goal-difference of 60 - the highest in the league by a wide margin of 17 goals! This superb goal difference is partly due to their defensive prowess (they have only conceded 9 goals in the league) and partly due to their unmatched desire to score goals, which has seen them hit the back of the net 69 times across 18 league games.

Some of their score lines this season have been eye-wateringly large including a staggering 11-0 victory against Woodley United Women at the start of the season where Olivia Glover grabbed a hattrick. They have also shown their ability to grind out important results by beating 2nd placed Wycombe Wanderers Women 2-1 in January. A Beth Lloyd brace ensured that her side sailed one step closer towards the National League.

Cup form

As well as an unbeaten league run, Ascot United Ladies have also done well in their respective cups. They had a nice run in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup and reached the First Round Proper before being knocked out by Brentford FC Women.

They have a chance to gain a second trophy in the League Cup however as they find themselves in the final of this competition - a match that pits them against Winchester City Flyers Women this Sunday the 27th April. After a commanding 6-1 victory against AFC Porchester in the semi-finals, Ascot United Women will be feeling confident.

Standout players

One standout player for this Ascot side undoubtedly has to be their top goalscorer Beth Lloyd who boasts an impressive tally of 20 goals across 23 games so far. She has been indispensable for her side this season and has scored some crucial goals including a stunning hattrick in the cup semi-finals to propel her side to a final. One thing is for sure, Beth Lloyd is ready to take the FA Women’s National League by storm!

Another player to watch is Olivia Glover who has scored a grand total of 18 goals in 21 appearances. The youngster is also making a name for herself outside of Ascot and was recently awarded a place in the England College’s team after trials. Born in only 2007, 18 year old Glover is certainly a future name to watch!

Another key player only joined the side this season - Leah Littlechild. Having joined the club in the summer, she immediately impressed in the middle and has made some classy performances ever since. With tough tackles, excellent passing ability and an eye for goal - which has seen her grab 17 goals this season - she is the complete midfielder.

Youth as the future

Without a doubt, Ascot United Women are a team who give opportunities to young players. One young player who has impressed this season is Ella Rowntree, who after playing for the U18s side last season, made the switch to the first team this season. Despite playing with players much older than herself, she has made her mark on the league and has made 12 first team appearances this season. She has linked up with fellow U18s graduate Sophie Doyle who has also made the switch to the first team this season scoring 3 goals in 12 appearances. Both of these players have shown maturity beyond their young ages and will be players to keep an eye on!

Club as a whole

From the amount of youngsters that are progressing into first team football, it is clear that Ascot’s pathway is one that works. They currently have a first team, development team and an U18s side which demonstrates their clear pathway to first team football. As well as this, they are clearly a club who are committed advocates of girl’s football within their community. The club currently runs a girl’s development center open to girls aged 5 to 16 with the aim of improving their footballing skills.

The club are led by their captain Phillipa Holden and play their home games at the Ascot United Racing Ground. Ahead of their debut campaign in the FAWNL, we wish the Yellawomen the best of luck with the 25/26 season!
