Welcome to Tier 4: Torquay United Women

After an unbeaten season in the South West Regional Women’s Football league, Torquay United Women claimed the title and with it, booked their space back in Tier 4 for the 26/27 season.

Across 18 games Torquay United Women claimed 14 victories and four draws meaning they will be moving into Tier 4, hugely confident of their ability, following an invincible league campaign. Finishing their season on 46 points meant that they finished just one point clear of their nearest rivals in s Forest Green Rovers Women. Their league title was essentially decided across two consecutive fixtures against Rovers which saw Torquay claim both a crucial point in a 1-1 draw and even more importantly, three points in a huge 4-1 victory on the 12th April. In this game, Connie Pengelly stepped up and delivered a crucial two goals in order to secure the victory for her side.

As well claiming the league title, Torquay were also hugely successful in the cup and secured the county cup title following a dominant final performance. This saw them put 10 goals past SB Oak Villa Ladies first team to claim a well deserved county cup trophy. Moreover, they also reached the league cup final against Poole Town ladies where five goals from five different goalscorers secured the trophy and ensured that this Torquay side secured the triple in a near-perfect season.

A huge part of their success can be attributed to the goalscoring ability of Connie Pengelly who despite only making 14 appearances, managed to find the back of net 20 times across the season. The former Exeter City Women striker is not only a powerful, hardworking player with a keen eye for goal but she is also loyal to this Torquay side after re-signing this year following a break. Her previous spell for the side, which also saw the season finish in promotion into the National League, also saw her pick up the golden boot. Another key individual whose performances have impressed is captain Lucy Palmer. The hugely reliable defender has been a rock for this side and has even chipped in with a goal this season.

As they move back into the FAWNL, Torquay United Women will be hoping to better their previous spell and demonstrate what they are capable of achieving when they play their best football!
