The champions of the Southern Region Women’s Football League Wycombe Wanderers women have officially secured their spot in Tier 4 for the 26/27 campaign!

Across 20 league games, this Wycombe side secured 14 wins, three draws and suffered three defeats. They clinched the league title on 45 points taking it right down to the wire, finishing one point clear of second placed Winchester City Flyers. One thing that has stood out about this Wycombe side this season, has been their undeniable ability to find the back of the net. This was illustrated by their enviable league tally of 58 goals, 15 more than their nearest rivals in second place.

As well as clinching the league title and the all important promotion, Wycombe have also seen some success outside of their league campaigns. They reached the League Cup final following a tense 3-2 semi-final victory against Winchester City Flyers courtesy of by goals from Bobby Lynch, Chloe Melton and Laura Hennessy. However, it simply wasn’t to be on the day for Wycombe as they suffered a heartbreaking defeat on penalties in the final against AFC Porchester women. Similarly their Adobe Women’s FA Cup run also finished in penalty heartbreak in the 1st round proper against Tier 4 opposition Bridgwater United Women. However their victory against Tier 4 Chesham United women in the previous round demonstrates how this Wycombe Wanderers side is more than capable of competing in the FAWNL.

Much of their success this season can be attributed to the dynamic attacking duo of Chloe Melton and Kayla Potter. Across 46 appearances combined the two highly prolific forwards managed a total of 52 goals scored - an incredible tally that is likely to inspire fear in any Tier 4 goalkeeper. Despite picking up the player of the year award and the golden boot, Potter’s season was unfortunately cut short after suffering a torn ACL in March. Disaster then struck for their other talismanic forward Chloe Melton as she also tore her ACL at the end of the season. Any football fan will be hoping for their speedy recovery to see these hugely gifted forwards back on the pitch quickly. Another key player is their captain Bobby Lynch who made 25 appearances this season and has been a keen figure both on and off the pitch for her club.
